As of October 4, 2026. Figures are publisher-reported units sold or shipped, not audited sales, and a “+” marks a published floor (“more than” or “over”), so tied or near-tied rows (Skyrim and The Witcher 3 at 65 million-plus, Stardew Valley against Animal Crossing, Cyberpunk 2077 and Hogwarts Legacy at 40 million-plus) could be in a different order on exact totals. Counting rule: one game is one entry across every platform and edition (Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock, Skyrim’s re-releases, Pokémon’s four original versions), while sequels, remakes and multi-game compilations are separate. That rule leaves out Tetris, whose 500 million-plus total adds up many unrelated releases since 1984, and keeps Super Mario Bros. at its 40.24 million original NES cartridges (the often-quoted 58 million adds compilations and re-releases). Bundled games stay in and are flagged in the last column: Wii Sports shipped with almost every Wii outside Japan and South Korea, and Super Mario Bros. shipped with the NES. Grand Theft Auto VI is not ranked: it launches November 19, 2026.[1]
The Top 10
#1
Minecraft — 425 million-plus copies
Mojang confirmed 350 million copies in April 2025, and Guinness World Records recognizes it as the best-selling game of all time.[2] At Minecraft Live on September 26, 2026, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said sales had passed 425 million and that more than 300,000 people try the game for the first time on an average day, more than 15 years after launch.[3]
#2
Grand Theft Auto V — 230 million-plus copies
Take-Two reported GTA V past 225 million units in November 2025 and past 230 million in its August 2026 results, nearly 13 years after its September 2013 release.[4][5] It still holds second place, but its successor, Grand Theft Auto VI, is set for November 19, 2026.[6]
#3
Red Dead Redemption 2 — 87 million-plus copies
Rockstar’s 1899 Western passed 87 million units in Take-Two’s results for the quarter ending June 2026, up from about 85 million earlier in the year.[4] It means Rockstar owns two of the three best-selling games on this list, and the Red Dead franchise as a whole has passed 116 million units.[4]
#4
Wii Sports — 82.90 million copies
The best-selling single-platform game ever launched with the Wii on November 19, 2006, and came packed in with the console everywhere except Japan and South Korea.[7] That bundling is why its total tracks Wii hardware: in Japan, where it was sold separately, it managed 3.77 million copies.[7]
#5
PUBG: Battlegrounds — 75 million-plus copies
PUBG Studios and Krafton reported more than 75 million units sold across PC and console, plus 16.3 billion hours played, in a sixth-anniversary infographic.[8] The game went free-to-play in January 2022, so paid unit sales have largely stopped growing, and this is the oldest figure of any top-ten row.[8]
#6
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe — 71.53 million copies
Nintendo’s investor data shows 71.53 million units as of June 30, 2026, making it the best-selling Switch game and Nintendo’s best-selling game ever on its own platform.[9] It was revealed in January 2017 and released April 28, 2017, as an enhanced version of the Wii U original.[9]
#7
Terraria — 70 million-plus copies
Re-Logic announced 70 million copies on the game’s 15th anniversary, May 16, 2026: 39.6 million on PC, 19.7 million on mobile and 10.7 million on consoles.[10] About 461,000 players still log in on PC each day, and cross-play is planned for its next update.[10]
#8 (tie)
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim — 65 million-plus copies
Bethesda said on July 17, 2026 that Skyrim had passed 65 million copies, counting every edition since the November 2011 original.[11] That is up from 60 million in June 2023 and 30 million in 2016, a long tail built on repeated re-releases.[11]
#8 (tie)
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — 65 million-plus copies
CD Projekt reported 65 million copies in its first-quarter 2026 results (May 28, 2026), five million more than the 60 million announced in May 2025.[12] It got there in about 11 years against Skyrim’s 15, and the Witcher series as a whole has passed 90 million.[12]
#10
Animal Crossing: New Horizons — 50.29 million copies
Nintendo reports 50.29 million units as of June 30, 2026, the second-best-selling Switch game after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.[9] It sold 13.41 million copies in its first six weeks, and by November 2022 its 10.45 million in Japan had passed Pokémon Red, Green and Blue as that country’s best-selling game.[9]
