At the end of 2019, there are 8 countries in South America with well-publicized national open data portals, altogether sharing out 23,556 open datasets. National open data portals share country-level data, as opposed to city data portals which publish only data specific to the city or town.

Columbia's national open data portal has published the largest number of datasets (10,231 datasets) in South America, followed by Brazil (7,249 datasets) and Chile (3,700 datasets).
