Tallest Dams in the World

  Overview

In Sichuan, China, stood the world's tallest dam - the Jinping-I Dam. Standing at a height of 305m, the Jinping-I dam can hold up to 7.76 billion cubic meters of water.

The Republic of Tajikistan, a landlocked country in Central Asia, owns the second-tallest dam - the Nurek Dam. The Nurek Dam stands at a close 300m and impounds a reservoir with a capacity of 10.5 billion cubic meters.

Xiaowan Dam of China is at third with a height of 292 meters.

Tallest dam in the world. Jinping-I Dam of China is the tallest hydroelectric dam in the world with a height of 305 meters. Completed in 2014, Jinping-I Dam has a structural volume of 7.40 million m3 and is capable of holding up to 7.76 billion m3 of water, producing up to 3,600MW of power.

Nurek Dam.   

2nd tallest dam in the world. Nurek Dam of Tajikistan is the second-tallest hydroelectric dam in the world with a height of 300 meters. Completed in 1980, Nurek Dam has a structural volume of 54 million m3 and is capable of holding up to 10.50 billion m3 of water, producing up to 3,015MW of power.

Xiaowan Dam.   

3rd tallest dam in the world. Xiaowan Dam of China is the third-tallest hydroelectric dam in the world with a height of 292 meters. Completed in 2010, Xiaowan Dam  is capable of holding up to 15 billion m3 of water, producing up to 4,200MW of power.

Xiluodu Dam.   

3rd largest hydroelectric dam in the world. Xiluodu Dam of China is the third-largest hydroelectric dam in the world with an installed capacity of 13,860MW. Completed in 2013, the 285.50-meter tall dam holds up to 12.67 billion m3 of water in its reservoir.
