This list, How to clone a list, contains 6 data items. The key items for How to clone a list are What is list cloning?, RList Dashboard, Click the Clone button, Confirm cloning of the list, List cloned successfully, Cloned list and original list, .Description of What is list cloning?:
When we clone a list (call it list-X), we are creating another copy (list-X-clone) of that list.

What happens during list cloning? All the list properties of list-X, such as its description, icon, color theme, layout and other list properties, are copied over to list-X-clone. Thus, list-X-clone will look and behave like list-X. However, list-X-clone will be a different and independent list from list-X and any changes to list-X-clone will not affect list-X and vice-versa.

What is not copied during list cloning? Firstly, the published status of the list is not copied over to the clone. Thus, list-X-clone will always be unpublished at the point of creation. Secondly, the contents of the dataset are not "copied over" in the sense that now both list-X and list-X-clone are connected to the same dataset. If the data items of the dataset are updated, the changes will be reflected in both list-X and list-X-clone.

What if I want a clone of the same dataset for list-X-clone? You can perform dataset-cloning (as opposed to list-cloning which is what we are doing here) and then re-connect list-x-clone to the new dataset clone.
. Description of RList Dashboard: If you are currently not at the dashboard, click the Dashboard link at the top of the RList webpage.. Description of Click the Clone button: To clone a list, click on the Clone button associated with that list.. You can then further edit the new clone as a regular list from here on..
. Description of Cloned list and original list:
You will notice that both the cloned list and original list share the same dataset. If you want a clone of the same dataset (i.e. separate dataset) for the list clone, you can perform dataset-cloning (as opposed to list-cloning which is what we are doing here) and then re-connect list clone to the new dataset clone.

END OF TUTORIAL
.
