Located in Santa María, Neira Province, Colombia, La Esmeralda Dam is an embankment dam. It was built in 1976 (46 years since completion).

La Esmeralda Dam is the 2^nd tallest dam in South America. The embankment dam stands at a height of 237 meters and impounds up to 0.76 billion m³ of water. La Esmeralda Dam has a structural volume of 11.50 million m³ and an installed capacity of 1,000MW.
